Habetrot posted in her blog about the 2006 NATO Summit in Riga, Latvia, where 300 knitters were enlisted to knit 4500 pairs of mittens for NATO delegates and the media.
This is the direct link to the Latvian Mittens gallery.

ReplyDeletethank YOU for sharing! I was beginning to brainstorm about some stitch patterns for my mittens...looking through that gallery really helped.

ReplyDelete15 pairs per knitter? that's it -- i hereby formally give up stressing about finishing one pair of socks and a stole by monday.
ReplyDeleteIs the knitalong still happening? It's been almost a month since the last post.

Lovely mittens. But I have to confess I thought their ceremonial gifts should have been collected back up and given to those in need :)
ReplyDeleteAs a proud member of "Stranded without a Compass" I've started my second Stranded pair of socks. (Found a compass but don't know how to use it!)
I'm on my way to Estonia with directions from Nancy Bush. (Folk Knitting in Estonia) Laila socks under way.
Note to self: stop holding the map upside down! ;)
